Train to Gain
Train to Gain is a new national service for employers that started
in April 2006. It offers training for higher-level skills (including NVQs)
as well as the lower-level skills that were previously only available through
the Employer Training Pilot scheme.
Impartial brokers assess training needs
within the company - and identifies
what will be funded by the Government, as well as what the employer must pay
for.
Train to Gain provides access to relevant, flexible, high-quality training.
This takes place mainly in the workplace and uses an assess-train-assess method,
which enables the employee's prior learning and experience into account.
Employers using the Train to Gain service will be expected to pay a fair
contribution to the costs of training above first full Level 2 qualifications.
They must also commit to giving employees at all levels in the business time
to train.
Courses available include:
Basic Skills (Maths and/or English)
ITQ (the NVQ
in Information Technology)
